I grew up in a small town in West Virginia where I spent much time exploring the outdoors with my dad and many hours being crafty with my mom.  My love of nature and creativity, in addition to a deep faith in the body’s innate wisdom to heal, led me to study naturopathic medicine and midwifery.  I have known that I wanted to deliver babies since I was a little girl.  My experiences in life, travel, and learning have shown me the value of working with families from the very beginning and as they continue to grow.  This continuity of care is unique to having your midwife also be your family doctor.

I studied Biology at James Madison University in Virginia with a focus on pre-medicine, zoology, and research.  While attending JMU, I fell deeply in love with the study of the human body.  I moved to lovely Portland in 2000 to study Naturopathic medicine and midwifery at the oldest accredited school of Naturopathy, the National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM).   While at NCNM, I completed a 2-year internship in natural childbirth, with an emphasis on pediatrics and women’s health.
I love working with families, which is why I decided to become both a naturopathic doctor and a midwife.  As a naturopath, I use all kinds of tools to help my patients achieve their healthcare goals.  I especially love working with herbs, flower essences, being creative with exercise, dietary choices, and nutrition. As a midwife, I treasure spending the prenatal period working with families to have healthy pregnancies and beautiful births.
When I’m not being your doctor, I love spending time with my family-my husband Michael, and our daughter, Iris.  We love exploring nature here in the Pacific NW.   When I’m in town, I love vegetable & herb gardening, knitting, running, biking, and teaching.   To read some nice things people have said about the way I doctor, visit my Biznik page.  I look forward to meeting with you and helping you with your health care concerns. Until we meet, keep up with my news on my Naturopathic Blog!  In health,
Amanda Roe, ND
