FAQ's

What do we treat?
As primary care physicians, we are well-trained to treat just about any conditions, illness, or wellness concerns that you may have.  We welcome any person of any age, and especially enjoy working with families and families-to-be.

How long are office visits?
Naturopathic office visits are different from conventional office visits in that we allow adequate time for you to tell us about what is going on in your body, mind, and spirit.  We realize that all body systems are all connected, and must be considered equally in assessing health status.  We will talk with you about your health history & concerns and do the appropriate physical exams & labwork.  Then, we can begin to uncover the best way to restore your body’s natural balance to health.  Your initial visit will last 90 minutes as we discuss your health history and current health concerns in detail.   Follow-up visits are generally 45-60minutes.  Prenatal visits usually run 45-60 minutes.

What is a naturopathic midwife?
A naturopathic midwife is a naturopathic physician who has graduated from a 4-year accredited naturopathic institution as well as completed a 2-year apprenticeship in natural childbirth and midwifery.
Naturopathic midwives are in the unique position of being able to care for you and your family beyond birth fulfilling the roles of pediatricians and general family practitioners.  As physicians, we have extensive knowledge of homeopathy, botanicals, nutrition, hydrotherapy, and bodywork, and we incorporate these modalities into our midwifery practice.

Where can I have my baby?
We specialize in homebirth and waterbirth and believe that the ideal place for a family to have their baby is the place where they feel most comfortable and safe. Homebirth is a safe and effective choice for many families, allowing siblings and other family members or friends to naturally participate in the birth process if desired.

Is it safe to have a baby out of the hospital?
Most families who choose to have their babies out of the hospital will be able to deliver safely at home. Naturopathic midwives are trained to manage low-risk pregnancies and births and are attentive to situations that may warrant further naturopathic treatment or referral. Naturopathic midwives are fully trained in neonatal resuscitation and CPR and can use botanicals, homeopathy, and pharmaceuticals when necessary to manage birth complications.   We believe that birth is a normal and natural process, and the vast majority do not require medical intervention.  For further information about the safety of homebirths, please check out this study published in the British Medical Journal.

Do naturopathic midwives have hospital privileges?
At this time our scope of practice covers out of hospital births and does not allow for hospital privileges.  In the unlikely event that it become necessary to transfer care to a hospital during your labor, we accompany you and are there with you throughout the entire process.  Once at the hospital, we stay with you to offer labor support and encouragement, advocate for you, and help assist you in making medical decisions.

Do you take insurance?
We do take many plans but because every plan is different, please check with your insurance provider to confirm coverage.  To verify your insurance coverage, print out this “Check Insurance Benefits” form.
